Compensation Sense: Looking Back and Looking Forward at Total Reward Solutions

December 20, 2018

It seems only natural from one year to the next to take a quick glance in the rearview mirror even as we focus on the road ahead. For me, personally, and the entire team at Total Reward Solutions, 2018 was a pivotal year in our escalating success. We accomplished much, served many, and feel blessed to be positioned to reach new heights as we make a difference for others. Here are some of the milestones we reached and goals we achieved throughout 2018, followed by some exciting things on the horizon for 2019:

The Book

In a year of professional accomplishments, perhaps the biggest was the fulfillment of a career-long dream: publishing my first book. This bucket-list item was years in the making and it felt so amazing when I could finally hold Compensation Sense 101: Common Sense Answers to Your Questions About Employee Compensation and Total Rewards in my hands. Of course, I couldn’t have realized this dream without the support of my team and all the compensation and HR professionals I’ve worked with over the years. And I am gratified by all the positive feedback I’ve received about the book. It is humbling to know that my long professional journey is helping others as they follow a similar career path.

Other Publications

In addition to the book, many of my professional articles were published in the Inside Edge e-newsletter, Perspectives section, published by Inside Indiana Business, Kentucky SHRM Newswire, Louisville Business First e-newsletter and print version in the Strategies and Guest Comment sections.

Serving Louisville

Speaking of Louisville, in 2018 Total Reward Solutions expanded into the Louisville market and began building relationships and serving clients there. It’s been exciting to be able to offer our comprehensive suite of compensation consulting services to Kentucky organizations. We look forward to many years of serving Indiana, Kentucky and beyond!

Service to Others

2018 was also a year of continuing involvement serving community and professional organizations. I served on the Boards of the NAWBO Indianapolis chapter and the Greater Lawrence Chamber of Commerce; and also served on the Kentucky NAWBO Symposium Committee. It is gratifying to be able to work alongside so many wise and talented professionals and dedicated civic-minded servants.

Goldman Sachs

In 2018 I was honored to have been chosen for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses (GS10KSB) program. This rigorous program – which helps entrepreneurs create jobs and economic opportunity by providing greater access to education, capital and business support services – takes tremendous time, effort and commitment, but was certainly worthwhile. I was thrilled to be chosen for the program and am proud to have graduated and joined the growing list of alumni.

Speaking Engagements and Presentations

In 2018, I continued to offer and provide professional speaking and industry presentation services. Chief among these were addressing the Accounting Firm Administrators on the topic of performance management and total rewards, a workshop in a joint presentation with Julie Kratz on Gender Pay Equality; and a presentation at the Indiana State HR Conference on Gender Pay Equality: Time to Fix It!

And Speaking of Speaking…

In 2019, I am already scheduled for three audio presentations with the HR Training Center: Compensation Basics, Base Pay Programs: What Works, and Pay Equality. I will also be speaking at Gregory & Appel’s Annual Employer Summit, and at NIHRA and IndySHRM South.

The Bottom Line:

Indeed, at Total Reward Solutions, we have much to be thankful for, but chief among our blessings is the opportunity to serve our wonderful client partners. We take great pride in being able to provide compensation consulting services and solutions for organizations in need. We bring big-picture perspective, market focus, cross-industry awareness, and professional commitment based on decades of experience serving HR organizations. We’ve had a terrific year, but we feel confident the best is yet to come. Thank you for being an important part of our continuing success!
